Yunha Park

Starting art in my 50s transformed my life in ways I never expected

About Yunha Park

Moving to Canada was a challenging journey.
Adapting to a new environment wasn’t easy, and I faced many struggles along the way.
But through it all, my family and I found strength in each other.
Still, the one thing that truly transformed my life was art.

One day, a woman in her seventies—living with dementia—gifted me a set of watercolor tools.
She likely didn’t even remember giving them to me.
But for me, that moment became a turning point—an invitation into the world of painting.

Before that, I was a cleaner. I often saw myself as small, insignificant — someone who blended into the background. But art gave me something I had never truly felt before: meaning. It gave value to a life I once thought was ordinary.

Not long after, I saw another elderly person completely immersed in painting.
As I watched their brush move across the canvas, something shifted within me.
I felt a quiet healing, both mentally and emotionally.
In their calm focus, I saw a reflection of my mother, who was far away.
Whenever I thought of her, inspiration would flow through me, and my brush seemed to dance.

These two elderly individuals became my greatest inspiration after coming to Canada.
They gave me courage, a new sense of purpose, and a second life through art.

Now, I hope to share that same healing power of painting with others—
especially with those in underprivileged communities, just as it was once shared with me.

Paint Night

Artist Statement

"Creating the Moment When Art Comes Alive"

“Where Art Comes Alive Through Sharing”

Through Paint Night events and outdoor exhibitions across Ontario,

I bring art into public spaces and everyday life, connecting artists and communities in open, welcoming environments.

I believe a painting truly comes alive when it is seen.
That’s why I focus on creating exhibition opportunities not only for emerging artists, but also for those who paint out of passion — turning private creativity into shared experience.

I also collaborate with community groups to plan

family- and child-focused art activities, and share my painting process and techniques openly through YouTube.

My goal is simple:
to make art visible, inclusive, and alive within real communities.
